Today we had a guest speaker at university, Victoria Carr. She spoke about her journey from leaving university to where she is now. She is a graphic designer and co-owner of 'Textbook Studios' ("Textbook Studio – Designers & Educators", n.d.) with her friend Chris Shearston. They actually have known each other since collage and even got the same internship 6 months after graduating. They had the same ideas to start their own studio which happened a lot sooner than planned when they both got fired from their internship. It gave them the push they needed. So in 2011 'Textbook Studios' was born.
They do a lot of work with books and beer and even my own university, The University of Huddersfield. They worked with students from previous years using photography from students. Here is one of the graphic pieces they created :

One of their main clients is Cloudwater Brewery. They stumbled across them one day and are now very loyal customers. Victoria and Chris enjoy working with them because they give them full creative reign which allows them to experiment and create really good, high standard work.
Victoria and Chris haven't had a clear straight line of a career. There is always going to be bumps in the road but as long as you work hard for what you want you can reach your goals.
