Photography competitions are not only a fun experience but also can be really important for your photography career. I have not yet entered any competitions because I think I need to develop my work before entering any of them. My reasoning for this is because a lot of these competitions are very public and anyone can see the images that are entered. This could be a very good way to promote my work especially if I won. That's why I want to perfect my work and give myself a higher chance of winning and being noticed by possible clients, brands, and anyone high up in the photography industry.
What competitions are out there?
One of the main competitions I want to enter is Travel Photographer of the Year. The main reason I'm still waiting to enter is because I'm wanting to go traveling when I finish university so I don't have any images yet. What I love about this competition is that it is a global competition. Anyone in the world can enter, wherever you are you can take part and I think it is so interesting seeing everyones photography from all different parts of the world. My favourite images from the 2021 entries was actually a runner up in the Young Traveler of the Year competition, from Miguel Sanchez Garcia, Spain. These images stood out to me because they almost look fake. But it's because of the amount of detail in the images. The composition, angle and lighting of these images is really interesting and works well.
